I went out to feed the birds carrying a container of black oil sunflower seeds, when a chickadee flew to the opposite side of the empty feeder. I was only a few steps away when he jumped over to the branch from which the feeder hangs. I held out the container of seeds offering them to him. He jumped to the rim of the container, took a seed, and then flew off. It was so cool.
Last year I was half heartedly trying to lure one into perching on my hand filled with seeds. Cold winter days and little patience stopped that pretty quickly. This was so cool...I'm so glad to have a brave (friendly) chickadee brighten my day with his antics.
Recreating a native habitat has been a dream of mine since I was about 18. It only took me 20 years, but I finally have two acres of land in the country with which to work (and play). My goal is to document the improvements I make to the property: restoring habitat & attracting birds and butterflies in addition to other wildlife.
