Recreating a native habitat has been a dream of mine since I was about 18. It only took me 20 years, but I finally have two acres of land in the country with which to work (and play). My goal is to document the improvements I make to the property: restoring habitat & attracting birds and butterflies in addition to other wildlife.
Just the back yard!? Nah, I want the front and side yards landscaped in natives too.

Discoveries
Winter tends to reveal things. Today I spotted several praying mantis egg cases.
That is so cool! I just found one on Saturday and was wondering what it was, I was guessing egg case or gall but I didn't know what kind. It makes sense, because it was on one of the mantis's favorite plants in my yard. Thanks David!
I didn't know what they were until last year...then again, I don't think I had even seen one until last year. At first I thought it was a chrysalis. One of the kind members at Wildlife Gardeners told me what it was; now I recognize them with ease. :)

I'm glad I could help.
