Recreating a native habitat has been a dream of mine since I was about 18. It only took me 20 years, but I finally have two acres of land in the country with which to work (and play). My goal is to document the improvements I make to the property: restoring habitat & attracting birds and butterflies in addition to other wildlife.
Just the back yard!? Nah, I want the front and side yards landscaped in natives too.

Winter is for the Birds!
I'm not a huge fan of winter; for years now I've said I'd be happy if it were only two weeks long. Luckily, after buying our property, I seem to appreciate (and tolerate) it a lot better. Attracting birds to the yard sure helps. I love the activity and seeing the birds close up.

Nice shots, David. I always look forward to the juncoes, and there's just something about cardinals in snow.
Thanks for sharing these beautiful photos!
Thanks, ladies. :)
Rebecca, I'm starting to appreciate the juncos more. The other day, I saw one that was a different shade of gray than the others. It made me realize I don't know much about juncos--I've read the name "slate-colored junco" and have to wonder if there is another species...or just a variation. I'm assuming that the males and females look about the same, but again, I've not studied up much on birds.
Yes, cardinals in the snow can be quite beautiful...and out of the snow as well. :)
